Surface modification of perovskite oxide cathodes is a proven approach to improve CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) kinetics in solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs). This study introduces SnOx nanoparticles (~10 nm) on Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6−δ (SFM) cathodes using a wet infiltration method. The SnOx-modified cathode exhibits enhanced surface area, optimized CO2 adsorption, and increased oxygen vacancies. The SOEC achieves a high current density of 0.691 A cm−2 at 1.5 V and 850 °C, with stable performance over 100 hours at 1.2 V and 800 °C. These findings highlight the potential of surface post-treatment strategies in advancing SOEC technologies for efficient CO2 electrolysis.
